Rock on revisited: SCD and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready

April 6, 2005

Journalist Nicole Brodeur has written an article titled: "Pearl Jam's McCready speaks from the gut". Appearing in the April 5th, 2005 issue of the Seattle Times, this article describes Mike McCready's experience with Crohn's disease and his current use of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. A link to the article may be found here:

Thank you, Mike McCready, for having the bravery to share your experience. This article could potentially generate discussion/funding for research on how/why the diet works--leading to less future suffering.

> One of my co-workers, an archivist, recently said, "I always think of Pearl Jam as force for good." With materials around us ranging from videotaped Holocaust testimonials and once-secret government papers on how to divide up Europe after WWI to posters listing draconian rules for colonized Africans and notes from Polio vaccine researchers, statements such as "force for good" don't tend to come as easily as they would in a high school hallway.
(Our workplace is in the Manuscripts & Archives department of a large research university.)

> The Seattle Times article mistakenly refers to Crohn's disease as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) instead of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) . . . but the general idea is still there:)
