HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE
This uncomplicated version of applesauce can be eaten as a snack or used for baking. It gives the breads a lighter weight and provides sweetness as well. My maternal grandmother Nonnie, who is still doing her own cooking at the age of 97, handed down this recipe. When we were newly married, we went apple picking with her at a local orchard, and together, we then stewed the apples into this homemade applesauce. - Raman

Ingredients

12 large apples
½-1 cup (120-240 mL) water
3 cinnamon sticks, optional

Instructions

1. Peel, core, and chop up the apples
2. Put them in a deep stovetop pan with the water
3. Add the cinnamon sticks, if desired
4. Bring it to a boil over high heat, then cover tightly, and lower heat to simmer for approximately 30 minutes, or until apples are soft
5. Remove the cinnamon sticks once done
6. If you want a smoother consistency, you can blend the applesauce once it cools
