"In this book, Raman Prasad has done a commendable service furthering Elaine Gottschall's lifelong work on preserving the SCD. As a physician, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has struck close to home—my wife struggled with ulcerative colitis, ultimately regaining health through the SCD. I can see how challenging the diet can be, and IBD patients need all the support available. In this context, I think Raman Prasad's cookbook is a most valuable resource. We are all grateful for his efforts. "

"Raman Prasad's book is for those who've understood the value of the SCD and want some excitement and variety in their diet. While Elaine Gottschall's Specific Carbohydrate Diet can be as simple or complicated as one would choose, Raman's contribution brings new life and continuance to Elaine's lifelong pursuit of restored health for those who continue to struggle with inflammatory bowel disease.

As I went through the lovely recipes, all I could think of is how proud and grateful Elaine would be to see her work so elegantly laid out. You've infused our health restoring diet with so much class and pizzazz that you've elevated it to haute' cuisine and the book itself is a work of art."

"Fedex and UPS have a talent for making parcels nearly impossible to open but I managed to wrestle the brand newest SCD Cookbook, Recipes for The Specific Carbohydrate Diet into submission and it was well worth the struggle.

Raman Prasad created scdrecipe.com, the website that has always been an invaluable complilation of recipes, interviews, articles and resources for the information-hungry SCD-er. His new cookbook includes his original recipes and contributions from our fellow dieters too.

The lovely thing about all the SCD cookbooks is they are written by those who have walked the walk and wielded the legal forks. One thing I have noticed in most SCD cookbooks and in my own original recipes too is sometimes they get exotic names despite having only a few basic ingredients. The new book has to have a few of these but it is generous in particular with some sophisticated Eastern dishes spiked with flavor, among them, Kung Pao Chicken , Morrocoan Beef with Spices and Vietnamese Pork with Shiitake Mushrooms.

Fourteen Chapters and over 200 pages from soups and with nuts through Breakfast, Drinks, Appetizers, Main Courses and all theat goes along, interspersed with photos that made me salivate made for unusual pre bedtime reading and naturally, I not only dreamt of food after but was greatly frustrated by an overnight dumping of ten inches of snow, making it impossible to shop and start trying the recipes at once.

Raman's trove of recipe gems contained a number of refreshing new ideas, sauces and marinades, and brand-new-to-me combinations of SCD legal ingredients I hadn't tried before, things I know I would rather prepare and enjoy even in preference to what's to be found in fine restaurants. The beauty of it all is the recipes are not difficult. I look forward to hearing which are your favorites. Might they include Uncle Jim's Pignole Cookies, or Parmesan and Walnut Crusted Chicken?

Will I be writing a cookbook? Not as long as I can read the great ones like Recipes for The Specific Carbohydrate Diet coming off the presses."
